The Morning Star is a retrofitted Mon Calamari star cruiser “acquired” by the Alliance for use against the Galactic Empire. Originally designed to be a luxury starliner, the Morning Star made its debut shortly after the Battle of Yavin and has become the base-of-operations for some high spirited Alliance personnel. Even though it is impressively large, the lack of weapons and any overtly offensive capabilities make it a unique command ship.

There is presently one starfighter squadron, Red, aboard the Morning Star. Red Squadron is a multi-role combat unit, whose primary mission is to engage the Galactic Empire in whatever theater High Command deems, including on the ground. Red is a mixture of piloting and commando skills, and are attached to Special Operations Commande. At times they work in conjunction with other Alliance units, but most often operate independently according to mission requirements.

The Flight Support Staff are the individuals who help with starfighter operations, but are not pilots themselves. They oversee fighter maintenance, logistics, and coordination with the ship's crew.
