Many pilots of the Morning Star and the rest of the Alliance use a program called ICQ to stay in touch with each other on a daily basis. ICQ works like AOL Instant Messenger; it tells you when people are online and lets you chat, send messages and files back and forth, and more. Get it at http://www.icq.com.
Once you're up and running, send an email to your CO or XO, or ask during an IRC meeting, to get ICQ numbers for your fellow pilots.
