Comments:
As its name indicates, the TIE Bomber was built for a single purpose: delivery of heavy ordnance, whether against ground targets or a Rebel capital ship. Its dual-hull design and extended solar panels are instantly recognizable. One hull is occupied by the pilot, along with the advanced targeting computer, the engines and other systems; the other contains the bomber's payload and launcher. Due to its size, slowness and general lack of grace, the T/B is an exceptionally poor dogfighter.
Every Star Destroyer carries a bomber squadron, and many ground bases on occupied planets keep some on hand as well. As mentioned above, they are usually deployed for precision ground bombardment or torpedo runs against enemy starships.
Tactical:
TIE Bombers (also called "dupes") can be a serious threat, but one that is easily neutralized by starfighters. They will almost always be on their way to destroy something important, and may (with typical Imperial dedication and single-mindedness) completely ignore you until you start shooting at them.
Intercept and destroy T/Bs before they get close enough to fire torpedoes at friendly craft. If you are unsuccessful, you may still be able to shoot the torpedoes down before they're out of range. Otherwise, finish off the bombers before they launch any more.
Dupes have heavy armor and take several shots to kill, but just one or two hits will make them evade. This can be useful to scatter an incoming formation, but beware: unless destroyed or heavily damaged, they will soon circle around and continue their attack run.
Sometimes, T/Bs may target you with concussion missiles rather than going after larger prey. If this happens, use the same tactics as for Assault Gunboats.
